Crypto Basics for Buyers
Most vendors accept cryptocurrency. If you have never used it before, this thread walks you through the essentials.
Why Monero (XMR)
Monero is the preferred payment method on this board because it is private by default. Bitcoin transactions are visible on a public ledger. Monero transactions are not. For buying AAS and related products, privacy matters.
Getting a wallet
You need a wallet to hold your coins. Options:
- Desktop: The official Monero GUI wallet. Full featured, runs on your computer.
- Mobile: Cake Wallet (iOS and Android). Convenient for smaller amounts.
- Hardware: Ledger or Trezor. Best for storing larger amounts long term.
Buying crypto
Purchase Bitcoin or Monero on an exchange (Kraken, Coinbase, Binance or a local option). Complete identity verification there if required. Then withdraw your coins to your own wallet.
Important: never pay a vendor directly from an exchange. Exchanges log everything. Withdraw to your personal wallet first, then send payment from there.
If the vendor only accepts Bitcoin
You can convert BTC to XMR using a swap service. Check the BTC to XMR conversion guide for a walkthrough.
Confirm before sending
Always double check the wallet address before sending payment. Crypto transactions cannot be reversed. Copy and paste the address, then verify the first and last few characters match what the vendor gave you.
